Growing Roots

Sundays, first session Jan 15-Feb 19
9am
Fireside Room
Facilitator: Stuart McKirdy
  • 'Growing Roots' is a discussion-based series featuring different subjects related to our spiritual growth. Each topic will go about six weeks.
  • Drop in as you can or commit to attending all the classes for a particular topic. Join in for friendship and sharing.
  • The first topic is about parenting our children - Growing Roots: Through a Parent's Eyes. In this 6 week series, we will open with some of the questions that our children ask such as “Will God give poor kids toys if they say please?“ and “Why do we have to go to church?” Please bring questions that you have been asked as well! We’ll explore the questions’ deeper meaning and how we can answer them for our kids. You can drop your kids off in the nursery at 9am and Diane will make sure they get to Sunday School.
  • The second topic will relate to Lent. Keep an eye out for more details!

PBS: God in America

Wednesdays, Jan 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 29, March 28

  • “GOD IN AMERICA [is] a sweeping history of how religious faith has shaped America. Interweaving documentary footage, historical dramatizations, and interviews with religious historians, this documentary series is an in-depth exploration of the historical role of religion in the public life of the United States.”
  • “The American story cannot be fully understood without understanding the country's religious history,” says series executive producer Michael Sullivan. “By examining that history, God in America will offer viewers a fresh, revealing, and challenging portrait of the country.”

Prayer Partners

This year don't say "no" to something for Lent, say "yes" to prayer and being a prayer partner!

Last year over 50 people were prayer partner.  They prayed for their prayer partner every day, and were in turn prayed for. Many people said they "felt an extra blessing" during that time.  Some said, "I knew someone was praying for me and it made my day go better."  Other comments included, “It was a great experience,” “I felt close to God,” and “Wonderful sense of community”.

If you would like to be a prayer partner this year for Lent, please sign the sign-up sheet in the narthex between February 5th-18th.  You will be paired with someone, and during worship on February 19th all partners will receive a blessing.

If you have any questions please contact Pam McIntyre at grammymc@frontier.com or 424-6285

Prayer Chains

Wed, Feb 15 6-7pm
and Sun, Feb 19, 9-11:45am
Fireside Room

Here’s your chance to create a tangible count-down for Lent. We’ll have strips of paper you can assemble into “chains,” with a quote, a Scripture reference, and the date on each piece of paper. Each day, as we get closer to Easter, you get a new insight into Lent and a chance to take off one link in the chain.

Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, Feb 22 6-6:30pm
Fireside Room
Facilitator: tbd

Begin the Lenten journey. Gather, pray, hear Scripture, sing, and be marked with ashes. Be transformed and renewed.

Heaven Is for Real

Sundays, Feb 26, March 4, 11
10:15am
Fireside Room
Facilitator: Blair Sanford

Have you ever doubted that there is a heaven? Are you sure that heaven exists, but would be thrilled to learn more? This uplifting, three-week study will review the book Heaven Is for Real by Todd Burpo. We’ll explore the story of a little boy's trip to heaven and back. It promises to change the way you think about eternity, make your life on earth more meaningful and your future more hopeful.

The book only takes three hours to read at most. It’s available at the church office for $9 or at your local bookstore.
