Children's Ministry
The mission of Children and Youth Ministries at People’s United Methodist Church is to provide a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment where our young people can develop a relationship with God, our church, our community and one another.
Regular Children's Ministry Happenings
- Sunday School is offered for children in Pre-K (potty-trained and 3 years old) through Grade 7 during 9am worship. In Sunday school students learn about God's amazing love for them, Bible stories, and practical life applications. Our classes are traditional grade-based classes and designed to be engaging and geared toward various learning styles.
- Children begin in worship with their parents and are then led to their classes in the lower level by their teachers following the Children’s Message. Sunday School ends at 10:15am.
- On the first Sunday of the month, there is no Sunday School. Instead, all are invited to stay, worship, and receive communion together as a family. This once a month service is designed to engage all ages! Children are always warmly welcomed into worship however, nursery care is also available all Sunday morning for children 5 years old and younger should you prefer that option.
- Christian Kids Club happens on Wednesdays from 6-7pm in the lower level. Join us for Wednesday Night Supper, and stay for the fun! Kids in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to join us as we enjoy faith-based music, games, art projects, science experiments and fun! Everyone is welcome, friends too. You do not need to be a member of PUMC to join us. In fact we love new kids.
Acolyte Ministry
Acolytes at PUMC light and extinguish the candles at the beginning and close of worship. On April 21st, children age 3rd grade and older will be given a short introduction and explanation during the Sunday School hour of what it means to be an acolyte and given the opportunity to sign-up for training to become an acolyte. If you are interested in your child becoming an acolyte, please contact Johanna Mahnke in the church office or via email at jomahnke@peoplesumc.org.
For more information contact our Children & Youth Director for more details.
Christian Kids Club will be having fun with the Bible story of Daniel and the Lions Den during April and the first week of May. Daniel was sentenced to be fed to hungry lions as a punishment for not worshiping a king, and through his faithfulness to God he spent the night in the Lions den and lived to tell about it!

Children and Youth Ministry Volunteer Appreciation is scheduled for Sunday, May 12. During the course of the school year dozens of volunteers spend just shy of 5,000 volunteer hours by serving the children, youth and families of PUMC. Isn’t that an amazing number??? So, on May 12 please be sure to thank the volunteers that are sharing their faith in this way. There will be a special reception honoring their ministry in the lower level between services that day and they will be recognized for their ministry during 9am worship as well.
